Port Ann Wesleyan Youth Group: Cameos from Camp (July 22-26, 2020)

Estimated read time 3 min read

Seventeen members of the Port Ann Wesleyan Youth Group and some immediate friends were part of more than 30 youth who participated in the 2020 Family Camp youth program July 24-26, 2020. Port Ann youth enjoyed two extra days of fellowship and activities prior to camp. A full photo gallery is below.

Musical worship during the youth sessions was provided by Ricky Murphy, and he was well-received by all our youth. Songs from the sessions included the following:

Lessons were pulled from the book “Resolved: How to Intentionally Focus on God Through Life’s Trials and Temptations” which delves into the first six chapters of the Old Testament book of Daniel while sharing powerful testimonies of several people from central Pennsylvania and how they weathered various storms in their lives. The key concept revolved around the first half of Daniel 1:8: “But Daniel resolved not to defile himself …” The discussions involved finding realistic everyday ways to mindfully stay true to God in the midst of the peaks and valleys all young people inevitably face. Activities included an Amazing Race style competition of finding clues and doing challenges around camp, a lakeside campfire with live worship music by Ricky Murphy, a movie/pizza night while enjoying the Christian film “Unconditional” with discussion afterward, a color war, an afternoon of water-based games including a slip-n-slide, a competitive afternoon of tug of war, water balloon launching, laser tag, swimming, volleyball, gaga ball, kayaking, biking, fishing, fellowship and much more.

Ultimately, it was a great experience for everyone who attended, including Michelle and myself. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the experience, including all the work by Ricky Murphy with music, help and guidance from Beth Gruber, Rodney Murphy, Rev. Donald Grant, Jacob Garrett, Sam Grant, Grace Lynn and Abigail Clendaniel on campus, for the parents who helped provide meals, the tireless campground workers including Bob and Lisa Smith, Gary Raker and Rev. Steve Smith for their support and, obviously, we thank God for protection, guidance and inspiration throughout.

We pray that the lessons learned through the week continue to have a positive kingdom-growing ripple effect for each youth and his/her family.
