Welcome to our online youth group lesson for Jan. 12, 2022. Catch up on previous lessons here. This week’s lesson is the second of a new weekly series developed by some of our youth members. This week’s lesson was created by Julianna Jordan:
Throughout life, everyone suffers through hurt and loss, but those who believe in God will be able to heal from that pain.
Psalms 147:3 (NKJV)
He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
There are easier ways to fix situations and some that don’t need healing from mean and unkind words.
Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV)
A soft answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.
We shouldn’t let hatred toward others dwell inside of our hearts.
Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV)
Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all sins.
God has promises to us. He will not let us be overwhelmed with too much that we can not heal from and get through.
Isaiah 43:2-3 (NKJV)
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I gave Egypt for your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
Hurt and pain may cause us to fall away from God in many ways and cause us to fall into temptations to cover the pain, but staying strong in God will allow us to come back stronger.
James 1:12 (NKJV)
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
When pain, sickness, rejection and loss hit us, we can either fight or flight. We can wallow in self-pity and give ourselves to misery, or we can learn things and gain so much by sticking by God.
Romans 5:3-4 (NKJV)
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces [a]perseverance; 4 and perseverance, [b]character; and character, hope.
Everyone goes through battles in life and the next time you want to lash out on someone, remember they may be going through hidden battles. Consider the other person’s battles and try to help them through.
Galatians 6:2 (NKJV)
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Suffering on earth is a guarantee, but the outcome outweighs the trial. Like in childbirth, the initial pain may be difficult, but once the mother holds the crying baby, everything is worth it.
Romans 8:18 (NKJV)
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (NKJV)
if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.
Isaiah 57:18-19 (NKJV)
I have seen his ways, and will heal him;
I will also lead him,
And restore comforts to him
And to his mourners.
“I create the fruit of the lips:
Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,”
Says the Lord,
“And I will heal him.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NKJV)
o everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time [a]to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
