For those who may have been wondering, the “ice pop guy” is up and running at the 2017 God’s Holiness Grove Camp Meeting.
Ever since she was little, my daughter has enjoyed stopping in at Reed Meeker’s camper for a quick ice pop that he and his wife bring to share with the kids at camp. To her, he is known simply as the “ice pop guy.”
“I remember when she was so little playing in the creek, and now she’s grown so tall,” Reed said Monday. “We just love kids, seeing them having fun and playing and learning about God.”
My wife and I learned last year that we had a connection with Mr. Meeker’s family that dates back years before meeting him at camp meeting – something that some people would call a major coincidence that we would now get to camp so close to him a week out of the year.
We know better – it is God’s providence. A small part of His bigger plan. It is another example of how God is working at camp meeting each year, and one of many reasons you should take some time to check out camp meeting.
Monday was a full day of activities for all age levels. Kids enjoyed morning lessons, songs, games and creating their own emoji pillows with Robin Kratzer and her team. The teens had their own time of worship, enjoyed an afternoon water game and then wrapped the night after the evening service with a pizza party and game night with the Rev. Donald Grant and his workers. Adults had a time of Bible study with the Rev. Tim Moore and everyone gathered for an inspired night of worship lead by the Rev. Stephen Wilson and musical ministry team of the Rev. Ryan Brosious and his wife, Amanda.
The evening service revolved around the story of the blind man healed by Jesus found at Mark 10:46-52. Rev. Wilson shared a four-step overview of how Bartimaeus was healed – and how we can take our pains, including those that are physical, emotional, financial, spiritual, relational or other, to God for his Healing power.
Rev. Wilson shared how Bartimaeus spoke up to a passing Jesus and that we need to speak up to God with our needs for healing. He highlighted how Bartimaeus got up physically to meet Jesus, and that sometimes God needs us to physically take action for the healing process to happen. The Rev. Wilson shared how Bartimaeus fessed up, not because Jesus didn’t know he was blind and wanted to see again, but because sometimes Jesus wants to be sure we know what we need vs. what we want. Lastly, Rev. Wilson highlighted how Bartimaeus, once up and healed, stayed the course with Jesus … and the importance of believers becoming followers. The service ended with a special altar call experience.
As with Sunday’s overview, the synopsis shared above is just a small glimpse of an amazing service that you need to see in person to fully appreciate. You are encouraged to come back tonight at 7 p.m. for the powerful experience of a service led by Rev. Wilson and Rev. Brosious.
