Port Ann Wesleyan Church is hosting a special youth rally on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 1-6 p.m. called “Together Triumphant” which is open to all area teens in seventh through 12th grades.
“We are planning a fun afternoon with some tournaments and other competitions revolving around the number three — 3 vs. 3 tournaments in volleyball, basketball, gagaball and bubbleball soccer. A Mario Kart racing tournament, a trivia challenge, some live music, food and more,” said youth group leader John Zaktansky. “Our goal is to just relax, blow off some steam and encourage each other for what can be a long and daunting school year for some.”
And what’s so special with the number three?
“In the Bible’s book of Ecclesiastes, we get some pretty cool advice. That by ourselves we are unprotected, but with a friend, we can face the worst,” said Zaktansky. “The verse, found at Ecclesiastes 4:12, goes on to ask if we can find a third person to support us, suggesting that a three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.
“That is one of our goals as a youth group here at Port Ann, to help teens find support systems they can rely on — a support system that should begin in the Truth that comes from God and His Word. That includes using our voices to build others up instead of tearing them down, to band together to face the worst and to come out the other side as triumphant.”
Tournaments and other activities will be run throughout the afternoon and into the early evening, with the event wrapping up with a meal, awards and small concert starting at 4:30 p.m. and wrapping up by 6 p.m.
Teams for the 3 vs. 3 tournaments will be chosen at the beginning of each tournament by drawing names of those wishing to participate randomly as a way to keep teams fair and avoid stacking the competition.
The event is free to attend, but we ask teens to pre-register by filling out an online form located here.
