In it’s ninth year, the Port Ann Wesleyan annual rabbit hunt drew a record 71 hunters on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021.

PAW men’s director Jim Mulaney has organized the event each year since its founding.

“It’s just amazing how it keeps growing year to year and the the guys are asking me to remind for next year! It’s great to see family hunt together, not only father and sons, but husband and wives, sons and daughters, even grandparents and grandkids. That’s just awesome to see,” said Mulaney. “It’s always good to see old friends and to make new friends too! Out of the 71hunters, 60 were from outside the church and I know some have their own churches, but some don’t so it’s an opportunity to make them feel welcome and opens the door for them to come back and visit again!”

In the nine years of the hunt, there has been 361 hunters, 266 rabbits, 78 squirrel, one fox squirrel and five pheasants, according to Mulaney.

There were a total of 23 new hunters this year, 14 teams and six mentor hunters.
